THE ORGANIZATION – HISTORY
The Val-d’Or Tourism and Convention Bureau (OTCVO) is a non-profit para-municipal organization created in 1986. OTCVO promotes tourism and tourism development and operates a visitor information centre. OTCVO is an integral part of the community and with a broad network at its disposal, has created and implemented a number of innovative projects. OTCVO also works with many socio-economic and tourism stakeholders in Val-d’Or and the region, such as the Val-d’Or Chamber of Commerce, the Secretariat to the Cree Nation-Abitibi-Témiscamingue Economic Alliance, the City of Val-d’Or, the MRC of Vallée-de-l’Or, the regional tourism association (Abitibi-Témiscamingue Tourism) and a number of other local tourism promotion and development organizations.
OTCVO’s mission is to promote tourism and tourism development to a variety of client groups within the City of Val-d’Or, for the benefit of tourism operators and the people of Val-d’Or, and to operate a visitor information centre that serves the City of Val-d’Or and the Abitibi-Témiscamingue tourism region.
There will be a greater influx of tourists to Val-d’Or in 2018 and they will be staying longer because our tourism supply will be better organized, offer more activities in both urban and outdoor settings, and more well-advertised to visitors, and because OTCVO will be acting as a catalyst in achieving these objectives.
